The city Babylon's army burned in 586 BC. Days before the day that mourns it, archaeologists just found the ashes.

Days before Tisha B'Av 2026, archaeologists at the City of David uncovered charred wooden beams from the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem's First Temple under King Nebuchadnezzar, growth rings intact enough to potentially refine the dating of the event. That same week, a separate dig in Jerusalem's Old City turned up a mold tied to Asherah-worship idolatry from the same period.

This is the other half of a story we already told. Our Babylon reel showed the empire that did the burning. This one shows the city that burned, same historical event, opposite vantage point.

Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem for roughly eighteen months before the wall was breached, King Zedekiah fled by night, and the Temple was burned to the ground, exactly as recorded in 2 Kings 25.

No voiceover narration carries the story. Just the city, the siege, the burning, and the real archaeological proof that survived it.
