About This Short

The most powerful city on earth, rebuilt in cinematic detail. Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar II, home of the exiles of Judah and the book of Daniel.

In 605 BC the walls of Jerusalem broke, and the survivors of Judah began a nine hundred mile walk east into a city built almost entirely in cobalt blue glazed brick. The Ishtar Gate stood over 38 feet high. The Processional Way, lined with an estimated 120 striding lions, ran for more than half a mile toward the temple of Marduk.

The exiles stayed seventy years and wrote Psalm 137 by the rivers of this city. Babylon fell in a single night in 539 BC, during King Belshazzar's feast, as recorded in the book of Daniel. Today the site is a dirt mound in Iraq, and the original blue bricks are in a museum in Berlin.
