Noah's Ark Team Says Radar Found a Man-Made Structure
A preliminary radar report from the Durupınar dig claims a built structure under the mound. Nobody outside the team has checked it yet.

The team digging at Turkey's Durupınar formation says its newest radar images show something built, not something formed. Noah's Ark Scans posted on social media last week that a preliminary report from engineer Dr. Khosrow Bakhtar "CONFIRMS that the Durupinar Formation is NOT geological," according to The Jerusalem Post. Within days the claim had run in dozens of outlets, from The Express to Fox News.
We covered this same dig on September 28, when thieves ransacked lead researcher Andrew Jones's apartment and took only his research. This is the next chapter. It deserves a careful read before anyone calls it proof.
What Did the Radar Scan Find?
Bakhtar built the imaging system himself. He calls it BakhtarRadar, and according to The Express, it is designed to filter out natural rock and soil so man-made shapes stand out. The group describes him as a rock-mechanics engineer with more than 200 published papers and decades of U.S. Defense Department projects behind him.
Here is what the scans show, per Noah's Ark Scans: straight lines, right-angle intersections, layered sections and possible empty spaces under the mound. The team reads those as corridors, compartments and several internal levels. Bakhtar called it the most significant finding of his 40-plus-year career, and his logic fits in one line: "If it were geological, we would not have seen it at all!"
Ask him what the object is, though, and he won't say ark. The Jerusalem Post reports he told the team he does not know whether it was a ship or something else entirely. That is an honest answer, and it matters.
The size is what keeps people coming back. The formation runs about 515 feet, and Genesis gave Noah these measurements:
And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.Genesis 6:15 (KJV)
Depending on which cubit you use, 300 cubits comes out between roughly 450 and 515 feet.
Has Anyone Outside the Team Checked It?
No. Not yet. Every outlet covering the story carries the same warning: the findings are preliminary, self-reported and not peer reviewed. No independent geophysicist has published an analysis of Bakhtar's data, and the full report has not been released.
The group has made big radar claims before. Scans from 2019, re-analyzed in 2025, described a 234-foot central corridor and angular shapes up to 20 feet deep, Fox News reported. Those results also came from the team itself.
The other side has a long record too. In the 1990s, geologist Lorence Collins and salvage expert David Fasold published a paper calling Durupınar a natural rock formation misidentified as the Ark. Fasold had once been the site's loudest champion. Modern geologists generally describe the mound as limestone and volcanic clay shaped by erosion, and earlier Turkish teams who dug there found no archaeological link to Noah, Greek City Times notes.
Scripture gives a good rule for a moment like this one:
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.1 Thessalonians 5:21 (KJV)
Testing a claim is not doubting God. The flood account does not rise or fall on one hill in Turkey. Genesis already says the boat came to rest upon the mountains of Ararat, and our answer to why God flooded the earth stands on the text either way.
What Happens Next at Durupınar?
The physical evidence is the part to watch. This is the first season the Turkish government has approved drilling at the site, with the expedition led jointly by Prof. Cenker Atila of Sivas Cumhuriyet University and Andrew Jones. The team says a robot lowered into one borehole hit no bedrock. Soil and core samples are now in labs, tested for wood, organic material and anything man-made. Winter will freeze the ground soon, so new digging waits until next year.
Radar shows shapes. Lab results show what those shapes are made of. If the cores come back with dated wood or worked material, that's news. If they come back as clay and volcanic rock, that's news too, and we'll report it the same way.
We walked through this exact kind of test in our video The Shroud of Turin, Red Sea and Sodom: What the Evidence Actually Shows. It takes four famous claims, from the radiocarbon fight over the Shroud to the 2021 airburst study tied to Sodom, and asks where the science supports the Bible and where it stops. Durupınar belongs in that same conversation. For finds that already passed the lab, see our Biblical Evidence collection, and follow every new dig on our Biblical Archaeology News page.

Key Takeaways
- Noah's Ark Scans says a preliminary BakhtarRadar report shows a man-made structure, not natural geology, under Turkey's Durupınar formation.
- The scans reportedly show straight lines, right angles, layers and possible voids, which the team reads as corridors and compartments.
- The radar's developer, Dr. Khosrow Bakhtar, says he does not know what the object is.
- The findings are self-reported and have not been independently verified or peer reviewed.
- Geologists have long called the mound a natural formation, and lab tests on this season's soil and core samples will matter more than any radar image.
