Nineveh, capital of the Assyrian Empire, repented under the prophet Jonah's warning and was spared, one of the most dramatic mercy stories in the Bible. Jonah himself was furious about it. A century and a half later, the mercy was forgotten, and a coalition of Medes and Babylonians destroyed the city completely in 612 BC.

In 2026, archaeologists excavating Nineveh's Shamash Gate found direct physical evidence of that fall: arrowheads, burn layers, and fragments of a shattered royal stela. This reel rebuilds the full arc, mercy and judgment both, grounded in the biblical account and the real archaeology.
