The Hagar Bible story is one of the most overlooked accounts in all of Scripture — an Egyptian servant used, discarded, and cast into the desert twice, yet personally found and spoken to by the living God both times.

I had no name in their story. I was a servant, something to be used and set aside. But God, he found me alone with nothing, not even enough to watch my son live. and he called my name. Thou God seeest me. On the edge of the Negev desert in the tent compound of Abraham, a young Egyptian woman named Hagar served the household of the man God had chosen. She was not a guest or a daughter. She carried water. She ground grain.
She moved through the rooms of a life that was not her own. Without being asked to exist beyond her usefulness in the tent of Sarai, the great wife, Hagar learned the language of watching. She learned which silences to fill and which to leave alone. And she learned over years of service the particular grief that lives in a woman who has been promised nothing. while the woman she serves has been promised everything.
Abraham had heard the voice of God. He had left his country, his kindred, his father's house. He had walked into the unknown on the strength of a word. The word was this, that his descendants would outnumber the stars. Night after night, the old man sat at the edge of his fire and counted what he could see of them. the stars, the sand, the years, and the promise had not yet taken a single step toward becoming true.
The tent of the great wife was full of everything except the one thing that mattered. And the desert, which does not hurry for any man's faith, stretched on without end in every direction. There is a kind of desperation that dresses itself as practicality. Sarai had watched her husband's faith hold for decade after decade. She had watched her own body betray the promise year after year. And so she made a calculation, not a wicked one by the custom of her time, a legal one, a desperate one...
